NADAL WINS OVER FEDERER

Roger Federer has been defeated by Rafael Nadal in the quarter final round of the ongoing Cincinnati Masters. Nadal won the match in three sets by 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.

Nadal wasn’t off to a good start as the scores suggest, but, the Spaniard showed great fighting spirit and turned things around in style to knock Federer out of the tournament.

This was the 31st match between these two players and Nadal defeated Federer for the 21st time.

Talking to the reporters in the post match interview, Federer said, “I think I lost the momentum in the later parts of the second set. It’s gutting to lose after being in a great position.”

“Rafa deserves the credit for the way he fought back. He capitalized on the opportunities that he got especially in the last two sets.”

In the opening set, neither of the two players managed to get a breakthrough in the first 10 games and the scores were equalized at 5-5 when the 10th game finished.
Federer sneaked in a breakthrough in the 11th game and then, smashed a flurry of winners in the next game to serve it out and seal the set.

In the second set, the first 9 games went with the serve and Nadal was leading by 5-4 at that stage.

Federer had to serve out the 10th game to take the set further, but, he couldn’t do that. He dropped his serve for the first time in the match and lost the set by 4-6.
That serve break in the last game of the second set seemed to have got Nadal going. He started aggressively in the decider and with a breakthrough in the 2nd game; he got ahead by 3-0.

The Spaniard didn’t lose the advantage after that and won his remaining service games with ease to win the match.
In the semi final match, Nadal will face Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic.
