MORE NERVOUS OFF THE COURT
When Roger Federer takes on his opponents on the court, he doesn’t look too nervous. But, he certainly showed signs of nervousness when he was watching the first leg of Europa League semi final match between FC Basel and Chelsea.
Before the match, Federer had predicted that Basel was going to win the match by 2-1, but, that didn’t happen. Actually, Basel lost the match by 1-2.
Federer was sitting in the stands to support his home club Basel and accompanying him was another member of the Switzerland Davis Cup team Marco Chiudinelli.
Federer was getting excited whenever a goal scoring chance was coming Basel’s way. He was completely involved in the game.
The spectators who had their seats near Federer were also pretty amused to see Federer’s reactions.
It was really a very exciting match. Chelsea took the lead very early with the goal of Victor Moses in the 12th minute. But, the main drama started when the home team bounced back with an equalizer in the 87th minute. It was Fabian Schar who found the net for the hosts.
There was not even a single spectator in the stadium who was not jumping after that goal. The home fans thought that their team wouldn’t lose from here. But, that wasn’t the case to be.
In the last minute of the stoppage time, David Luiz scored the second goal for Chelsea and that was the final nail in the coffin.
Now, Basel will have to beat Chelsea by a margin of more than one goal in the return leg if they have to qualify for the finals.
The return leg will be played at Stamford Bridge on 2nd of May and Federer will not be there to watch that match as he will be in Spain to take part in Mutua Madrid Open.
